About Us
Somebody, somewhere, once suggested that our use of tools helps to differentiate us from the animals.
In this context, the lawnmower is an important tool in the human armoury. It symbolises our stewardship over nature, allowing us to tame and to control the landscape around us; for good or for ill.
About Us
Since Edwin Budding wheeled out the very first lawnmower almost 200 years ago, garden machinery technology has evolved remarkably. A cast iron frame, has given way to a monocoque chassis, manufactured from materials the inventive Mr. Budding, could only have dreamed of. And hand power has given way to remarkably powerful petrol engines and brushless motors, powered by expertly engineered lithium-ion batteries.
Yet despite this remarkable progress and ever-increasing sophistication, the humble lawnmower is somehow more affordable, accessible, and easy to use, than ever before.
About The Author
I’m John, and I have a longstanding interest in lawnmowers, small engines and garden machinery. I was also fortunate, to previously work as Head of Marketing, with a leading UK importer, distributor, and reseller of lawnmowers and garden machinery. Since that role came to an end, I have undertaken consultancy on an ad-hoc basis, on behalf of other manufacturers and suppliers.
Whilst I am currently employed full-time outside of the garden machinery industry, because of my interests and background, I’m sometimes asked for advice on choosing the perfect lawnmower. Given the fast-paced nature of machinery development, such requests are ever more frequent. It was suggested that I should write a book about lawnmowers. But, as somebody who knows next to nothing about publishing, a website appeared a more realistic proposition. And that’s how Get Set Mow came about.
Independently Prepared and Written
Get Set Mow has been written especially for British gardeners and UK grass conditions, with one objective: to provide the knowledge and information you require, to help you choose the perfect mower. With so many models available from so many manufacturers, there’s no reason why today you should settle for less.
The content you’ll come across in this site has been independently written and prepared. Whilst influenced by the author’s prior experience, to ensure balance and objectivity, it’s prepared without the involvement, or influence, of any garden machinery manufacturer or supplier.
Furthermore, since no two lawns are the same, and no two gardeners have the same requirements, this guide does not, and cannot, provide a specific recommendation for your lawn. Instead, Get Set Mow seeks to provide the knowledge and information you need, to make an informed, and considered, purchase decision.
When maintained in accordance with supplied instructions, many of today’s machines will provide many years of dependable, reliable service. That’s why it makes inherent sense, to take the time to choose carefully and buy wisely.
Working With Manufacturers
As a website which values its independence, we cannot and will not endorse any specific supplier, distributor, or manufacturer. But we do appreciate contributions from manufacturers, that will prove relevant and beneficial to our audience. We especially welcome:
- New items and editorial pieces, for possible inclusion on the website, or our social media channels, which are relevant to British gardeners and lawnmower buyers;
- The loan of demonstration machines for review purposes, either delivered to and collected from Co. Down, Northern Ireland, or collected from and returned to a dealer location in Co. Down, Northern Ireland;
- Any other suggestions, contents, or initiatives, that are likely to prove of interest to our readers.
In the interest of clarity and objectivity, all manufacturer and supplier assistance will be credited. Interested in finding out more? E-mail hello@getsetmow.co.uk.
